Drew Vonfisher obituary, cause of death – Eden Prairie teenager killed in tragic I-94 Minneapolis Car Accident
MINNEAPOLIS — An 18-year-old from Eden Prairie was killed late Sunday night following a fatal two-vehicle incident on Interstate 94 in Minneapolis, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The victim has been identified as Drew Vonfisher.
The Initial Collision
At approximately 9:50 p.m. on Sunday, Vonfisher was driving southbound on I-94 in a 2005 Ford Focus near the interchange for Olson Memorial Highway. His vehicle collided with a crash attenuator that separates the main lanes of I-94 from the Lyndale Avenue exit.
Secondary Impact
Following the initial impact, Vonfisher exited his damaged vehicle and stepped onto the highway. Shortly after entering the roadway, he was struck by a 2021 Tesla Model 3 traveling along the same stretch of I-94. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Vonfisher suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Tesla, a 21-year-old man from Champlin, and a 22-year-old passenger from Coon Rapids were uninjured in the collision.
Investigation and Safety Warning
Road conditions were dry at the time of the crash, and state troopers confirmed that alcohol was not a factor. The Minnesota State Patrol continues to investigate the exact circumstances leading up to both collisions.
Law enforcement authorities reiterated the critical danger of exiting a disabled vehicle on busy highways, advising drivers involved in interstate collisions to stay inside their vehicles with seatbelts fastened if possible or move to a safe barrier location while awaiting emergency aid.
Vonfisher’s sudden death has left family, friends, and the Eden Prairie community mourning a young life tragically cut short.
